The Converting Department Lead and Trainer leads the Converting Department on-the-job (OJT) training and acting as the department subject matter expert (SME). The Converting Department Training Lead and Trainer will be responsible for coordinating Converting Department activities and executing training and development, including implementing policies and procedures. This position will collaborate and work with Converting Department employees as a hands-on leader.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily operations in the Converting Department, ensuring that machines are appropriately staffed, materials are staged, and that jobs are completed on time at the highest quality and with minimal scrap.
- Lead and coordinate all new hire training as well as continuing training for current Machine Operators in the Converting Department (i.e., operators for pouch converting, slitting, and rewinding equipment).
- Train Converting Department personnel, ensuring best practices are consistently understood and implemented. Provide hands-on support to maintain efficient, quality production.
- In partnership with site leadership, assist with development of training content.
- In partnership with site leadership, create, implement, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct onboarding and continuous training sessions to instruct employees on company processes and machinery.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency by leading setup operations, troubleshooting equipment issues, and operating machinery minimizing downtime and improving operational efficiencies.
- Communicate with Maintenance Department to coordinate and execute scheduled and Preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment and encourage safety related communication.
- Assure that the team maintains quality standards through knowledge of product specifications and training of personnel.
- Ensure that product quality, production, and overall productivity meet or exceed established standards.
- Provide feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement, including opportunities to continually challenge and reduce costs elimination of waste, reduced overtime, etc.
- Participate in problem analysis and determination, along with corrective action implementation of internal and external customer complaints.
- Support the management of shift changes, ensuring an effective handoff of jobs and responsibilities between shifts.
- Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school degree or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum five years’ experience as a machine operator, preferably in the flexible packaging industry.
- Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude and ability to assist with manufacturing production machine setups.
- Effective people skills and ability to motivate others to enhance team performance.
- Proven ability to lead by example with professionalism, excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, quality consciousness, customer orientation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand and present complex technical information in a compelling manner to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong initiative and organizational skills with ability to troubleshoot and make informed decisions.
- Adaptability to changing assignments and priorities while maximizing productivity in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent work ethic with willingness to learn, teach, and grow.
- Proficient communicator within a diverse group or one-on-one scenarios.
- Physical requirements: ability to stand for multiple hours, lift to 75 pounds, stoop, kneel, climb, and hold and manipulate objects with hands.

Preferred Qualification:
- Experience in the flexible packaging industry.
- Experience developing or delivering formal training programs.
- Operations leadership experience.
- Completion of advanced or continuing educational coursework relevant to manufacturing.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
Pay: $26.00 – $40.00 per hour
