Printing Process Trainer

The Printing Process Trainer is responsible for developing, managing, delivering, and validating printing process training programs. Responsibilities of this role include leading on-the-job training (OJT) of staff as a subject-matter expert (SME), coordinating training schedules, training compliance monitoring, training system improvements and onboarding new members of the production team. This position will also be involved in the technical writing of training documents as well as authoring/revising on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities also include developing and maintaining training metrics to drive performance improvements through collecting and providing training for key performance indicators (KPIs). Utilizing routine metrics data analysis, this leader will promote continuous improvement. This is a working Trainer position. The Trainer is expected to be fully proficient in the operation of all printing presses and related equipment in the Printing Department and willing and able to work alongside members of the team to support learning objects and production needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training sessions to instruct employees on company processes and machinery on the plant floor, providing formal and informal group and individual training and coaching.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in machinery in the department by setting up and operating machinery as well as working alongside team members.
  • Improve the overall operational knowledge of Printing Department to include best practices, basic knowledge of detailed aspects, enabling troubleshooting of problems or situations that may be encountered within the converting manufacturing and print processes.
  • Lead and develop Operations Excellence work processes for operator training program and validation.
  • Find and capture opportunities to innovate and improve created value to customers and company. Coordinate inter-departmentally within manufacturing and commercial capabilities to achieve business goals.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience while providing training to team members. Responsible for their individual performance and training plan.
  • Work with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourage and lead team members to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices for their benefit.
  • Work closely with members of the leadership team to ensure appropriate documentation and formatting of training materials.
  • Develop teaching aids including training manuals, demonstration models, reference material, and visual aids.
  • Track, record, and maintain attendance records for all training conducted.
  • Lead the creating, facilitating, and advising of initial and ongoing training initiatives to inform and advise operations staff of practices and procedures and continued maintenance of existing programs.
  • Assure that the team maintains quality standards and uses Eagle Flexible Packaging techniques for problem resolution through knowledge of product specifications and training of personnel.
  • Ensure that product quality, production, and overall productivity meet or exceed established standards.
  • Assist the team in problem resolution and assure that testing and product development is carried out in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Incorporate KPI’s as well as company Mission, Vision, and Core Values in training plans.
  • Conduct research and analysis and deliver training programs to anticipate training business needs and trends for new business in the future.
  • Provide feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement.
  • Formulate training policies and schedules utilizing knowledge of identified training needs; company production processes; business systems; or changes in products, procedures, or services.
  • Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed at all times. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school degree or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience with a minimum of 8 color print processing and demonstrated extensive knowledge of relevant equipment in the printing industry.
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to understand and present complex technical information in a compelling manner to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Great inter-personal skills and professional courage with ability to motivate others to perform at high levels.
  • Proven ability to lead by example with professionalism, excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, quality consciousness, customer orientation, and organizational skills.
  • Basic PC skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and email software with proven ability to use technology resources to support training efforts as well as learn complex new software programs.
  • Strong sense of initiative and effective time management skills with ability to work proactively and independently in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities while maximizing productivity in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Professional proficiency in verbal and written English, including ability to effectively and professionally communicate with a diverse group of internal and external customers in group and one-on-one scenarios.
  • This position will be responsible for training staff who work all shifts. Therefore, an ability to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends will be required at times to effectively train all members of the Printing team.
  • Physical requirements: ability to stand for multiple hours, lift to 75 pounds, stoop, kneel, climb, and hold and manipulate objects with hands. Work conditions will frequently involve noise, fumes, and hazardous chemicals.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Five years’ experience as a flexographic press operator strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing and delivering formal training programs.
  • Operations leadership experience.
  • Completion of advanced or continuing education coursework relevant to the fields of adult learning and/or manufacturing.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience with learning management system (LMS) software.
  • Knowledge of web meeting and e-learning tools/methodologies, including ability to develop and deliver remote training.

Pay: $26.00 – $40.00 per hour

  • Company Paid Short-Term Disability– The Short-Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.
  • Company Paid Long-Term Disability– The Long-Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.

  • Vacation/PTO – The amount of vacation/paid time off (PTO) employees receive each year starts at 80 hours (2 weeks) each year, which accrues at a rate of 1.538 hours per week, and increases with the length of employment.
