Vice President of Operations (Batavia, IL)

The Vice President of Operations contributes to the success of Eagle Flexible Packaging (“Eagle”) by leading flexible packaging manufacturing operations at Eagle’s two Batavia, IL facilities and facility in Waupun, WI. As a senior leader primarily based out of the Batavia facilities, the VP will be responsible for safe and efficient manufacturing operations and developing talent while supporting Eagle’s continued growth and commitment to innovation and exemplary customer service. This is a first shift position that will have responsibilities for supervising staff who work all shifts in a 24/7 production environment. Therefore, an ability to work a flexible schedule will be required at times to effectively train and lead all direct reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage personnel, capital equipment, and processes to generate maximum efficiency and continuous improvement while maintaining safety, product quality, customer service, consistency, and operational excellence. Anticipate errors and make adjustments to increase throughput, minimize downtime, and minimize waste.
  • Collaborate with other members of senior leadership team to create short- and long-term plans for operations and capital.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual check-ins (i.e., performance evaluations), providing constructive feedback and working with direct reports to develop goals that support of their professional aspirations. As needed, initiate and follow through with performance improvement plans in order to address performance deficiencies. Ensure that direct reports are providing appropriate coaching, mentoring, training and feedback to their teams using company-provided tools and resources.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to strategically staff team, including succession planning and recruitment efforts.
  • Create a positive, collaborative, open, and informed culture, ensuring all team members have an understanding of and commitment to achieving company goals by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and evaluating job results.
  • Develop, document, and execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to the areas led, ensuring that food safety best practices are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that good manufacturing practices (GMPs) are followed at all times.
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual budget while implementing strategies to achieve budget and other key metric goals as well as recognizing and implementing cost-saving strategies and techniques.
  • Innovate and advise on plans for facility modification and expansion, such as equipment purchases or changes in space allocation, workflow, and structural design.
  • Promote a world class safety culture: implement an effective safety training program and ensure that safe workplace standards are always maintained.
  • Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed at all times. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years relevant experience, including experience managing supervisors. Senior leadership experience in manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptionally strong leadership skills, including proven ability to coach and motivate team members, address performance concerns and interpersonal conflict, and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Intermediate PC skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and email software with proven ability to learn complex new software programs.
  • Understanding of financial management and cost control, including budgetary guidelines and project expenditures.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics using business management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and troubleshoot in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Sense of urgency to complete responsibilities with thoroughness, responsiveness, professionalism, and whenever possible, proactively.
  • Professional proficiency in verbal and written English, including ability to effectively and professionally communicate with diverse individuals.
  • Superior critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Strong customer service acumen.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (hours outside of traditional first shift hours) as needed.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission, vision, and values of Eagle Flexible Packaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software; preferably experience with EFI Radius.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the flexible packaging industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Additional Information:

Workweeks in excess of 40 hours will not be unusual, and a willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasionally overnights, which are required in order to accommodate production demands. Occasional travel, including overnights, will be required to attend industry events and provide leadership to Eagle’s facility in Waupun, WI.
